The Portable Office
I don’t know if this is a universal thing or an American thing – when we embark on a venture the first thing we do is get gear. Most of us over-pack, trying to anticipate all the scenarios we might encounter. It’s a protective mechanism that helps us be able to leave the comfort of home.
I am just like everyone else, lugging too much stuff. I’ve tried to pare it down to the essentials. Here's what's in my bag this year:
- Laptop
- Power adapter – I have one that converts for many countries
- Digital camera with battery charger and cord for loading the photos onto the computer
- Digital recorder
- IPod – this is new for me this year
- IPod speakers – also new, I’m excited about having better sound quality for enjoying music
- Patch cord
- Batteries
- Memory cards for camera
- Global Atomic Alarm Clock
- My notebook collection, last count fourteen
- Art supplies pouch
- ink - pen refills
- my novel - spiral bound manuscript
That’s pretty much it. All that fits into one carry-on bag. It’s heavy. Wish me luck!
